BGHS Bobcat Band Weekly Newsletter
Friday September 4  -  call time is 4:45 PM

  1. Thanks  to all who helped at the first home game.  Your students were terrific, despite the weather!  For those who asked:  The woodwinds were in “cases” at half-time to protect your investments.  Excessive rain may cause pads to fall out – on wet nights, when we are able, we will do this for the students’ own good.

  2. Coupon Books: Elaine Albright will be in on Friday morning to collect money – she also will distribute additional books for those who want them.  Thanks to all who have been working on this project!

  3. Uniforms: We are grateful to Robyn Moellenberg, Pam Morris and their helpers for the huge task of uniforming our band!  With luck, we might be able to wear uniforms this week – but we’ll need the “home chaperones” to be ready to assist.  The first night we change here at school is always interesting!

  4. Gloves:  Freshmen have/will receive their first pair of white gloves for free – upperclassmen should start searching their homes for their pair(s) of gloves.  Replacement pairs are available at the “Band store” for $5.00.  We will assist the clarinets in trimming the fingers of the gloves to accommodate the tone holes of the instruments.

  5. Forms & Fees:  Many thanks to those who have returned health forms and/or maintenance fees.  There are extra copies of the health form in the HS music room should you need one!

  6. OMEA Regional Honors Orchestra: The music & application forms have JUST arrived for the first of the many honors bands/orchestras for the 2009-2010 school year. Students who play flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, horn, trumpet, tuba, trombone or percussion are eligible.  Requirements include a short etude (exercise) or solo, the OMEA Class A scales and another short piece which we have in the office.  Application forms must be post-marked by September 18 and include 2 checks; details are printed at the bottom of each application.  Interested students should probably be taking private lessons, can commit to extra practice time at home and have the rehearsal and performance dates completely clear on their family calendars. Auditions, rehearsals and performance will be held at Whitmer HS.  For more details, please call or email Mrs. Smith.

  7. Calendar:  Other than our “Home” and “Away” football games, the Bobcat band will be performing at the September 26 Falcon home game, vs. Boise State.  All band members, staff and some chaperones will be involved.  The call-time will be approx. 1:00 PM at the BGSU campus. A complete itinerary will be forth-coming.  Students with legitimate schedule conflicts should complete a yellow form in the music room and return ASAP.

  8. Reminder: The Band Store, know as Emily’s Emporium this year, is collecting a number of “debts’ for reeds, flip folders, lyres, etc.  We are very happy to offer this as a service for our students; however, eventually they must pay for their merchandise!  Thanks!!!
