Symphonic Band Itinerary - OMEA 3/12/10

ITINERARY BGHS SYMPHONIC BAND

OMEA District Adjudicated Event

Friday, March 12, 2010 – Sylvania Southview HS


4:30 PM        ARRIVE @ BGHS Instrumental Room –

  • Snacks available
  • Change into formalwear
  • Attendance by  LIZ LATTA
  • Sit in regular seats for instructions
  • Short musical warm up as directed by Mrs. Smith
  • Load truck  when directed  to do so. Follow load list as provided.

5:15 PM        DEPARTURE

6:00 PM        ARRIVE @ SV

  • Mrs. Smith to check-in at office; students  remain on bus
  • Guide takes all students (except percs.) to homeroom.  Perc. will need friends to help carry formalwear to homeroom for them.
  • Percs:   walk directly to the  auditorium back entrance to check on  equipment. Then join us to change into formalwear.
  •  All others take comfort stop, back to homeroom, assembly instruments. NO PLAYING ALLOWED!!

6:45 PM        All back in homeroom; distribute folders; instructions from Mrs. Smith. Leave ALL electronic devices in your cases, purses, etc.  You cannot have those with you  on stage nor in SR.

7:00  PM       Proceed to warm up room (SV Library).  Only Mrs. Smith, other staff  & students allowed. 
                      Take instruments, mutes, folders, extra reeds, everything needed on stage & in SR room.

7:20 PM        Set up Crew & percs to stage; rest of band continues to warm up.

  • Move quietly & efficiently through the hallways.
  • Carry your folders & instruments carefully – the halls may be crowded
  • Watch, listen, follow directions the first time given
  • On stage – sit down when directed.  Play only when so directed.

7:45 PM           BOBCAT SYMPHONIC BAND PERFORMANCE!!!

  • Parents & Friends welcome!  Doors openonly between bands.
  • Absolutely NO:   cameras, texting,  or video/audio recording by you or by your parents. Violations will disqualify us!  OMEA rules prohibit this at all OMEA competitions!
  • Applause from the audience is welcome & encouraged!  Tell your folks it’s OK!

8:20 PM        Sight Reading – SV Instrumental Room – Mrs. Smith, other staff & students, only.  Details below.

9:00 PM        RETURN TO HOMEROOM.  Staycompletely in formalwear. Pack instruments & music, and percussion packing onto the truck at this time.  Listen for Mrs. Smith’s  instructions; cafeteria, get ratings.

9:20 PM        Return to Homeroom.  Prepare to Load & leave.

9:30 PM        DEPARTURE FOR BGHS

10:00 PM      ARRIVAL @ BGHS.  UNLOAD, CHANGE CLOTHES, Have a great week-end!

 

 

BAND NOTES:

  • Music Coffin: CHRISTIAN, BECCA
  • Attendance: LIZ
  • On-Stage Set up Chief: SEAN BLANCHARD
  • Load Crew:  All percs, tubas, euphoniums, Tenor & Bari Saxes

 

SIGHT READING:

  • First Impressions Count!  Move & behave as an “Individual Group”, not a “Group of Individuals”
  • Be seated in regular seats. Move quickly & efficiently, don’t have a “melt-down” about the stands & chairs.  “Deal with it – graciously”.
  • Folders under chairs.
  • SV students distribute SR folders – they may be the same color as ours – be observant.
  • Percs. set up as needed.  You already have your part assignments.
  • NO PENCILS on the SR reading music.  Trust your memory, only.
  • Four Minutes of silent study; 4 minutes for Mrs. Smith to explain.
  • Remember your “STARS” – look at the “road map” – read the directions.
  • Read between the lines
  • Finger tricky passages
  • Solo parts –  same as we would for prepared pieces
  • Think of the dynamic levels 1-8
  • Think of the accents patterns: 100 %, 70%, 60 %, 50 %
  • WE READ! Continuously, we hope! If we need to stop & re-group, stay calm & recover.
  • The adjudicator will make verbal comments, as well as written. Be quiet, patient & find something positive.
  • SR folders are collected, pick up your own folders, equipment, etc.
  • Return to homeroom.

 

UNIFORMS/FORMALWEAR:

  • Stay fully attired until back on the bus. Be polite & cooperative with Mrs. Hammersmith & crew!
  • Shirts tucked in,   LONG BLACK SOCKS for the gentlemen.  See us if there are problems.
  • NO HATS!
  • Remember, ONLY percussionists need to travel with garment bags.
  • When we return, hang up formalwear- OR- follow Mrs. Hammersmith’s directions.
