Bobcat Band Blast 2/22/10

By administrator - Posted on 22 February 2010

From the Bobcat Band Booster Executive Board:    It would be greatly appreciated if students and parents would make every effort possible to get their band accounts current.  At this time, there are over 30% of our families who have not made any payment towards their annual uniform fee of $50.00/family/year.

Also, over 80 high school band students have one or more debts to the band store – the total is getting quite high!  We surely do not want to be faced with additional  fundraising  projects dedicated to off-setting individual accounts!  Mrs. Smith added the comment, “Has Store Debts” to all applicable grade cards in January.  Please check with your “young adult” to see if they have been consuming reeds, gloves, valve oil, flip folders, etc. since August.  Band treasurer Emily Smith regularly is on time, if not early, for school each day and will gladly accept your payments!  Cash or checks, please, made to: BGHS Band Boosters.   (In cases of unusual financial difficulty, a simple note, email or call to Mrs. Smith will suffice.  This information will be kept confidential.)

Congratulations!    To the following Bobcat Band members who performed last night at the Stranahan in the OMEA District 1 Honors Festival.  The concert band  included  Leela Singh, flute;  Jon May, trombone;  Shleah Whitlock, trumpet; and Katie Cochrane, clarinet. Several band students performed in the other ensembles including violinist Gen Simon with the orchestra and Jamie Paridon, baritone and Jordan Detamore, tenor, singing with the choir.  Bravo to Jordan for a terrific vocal solo, too!

From the Band Directors:   The third quarter is our busiest time of year for the “sit-down” bands! Reminders of upcoming events are posted on our classroom screens daily, are read over the PA, as well as paper posters are installed around the department.  All students have or will have a minimum of 1 sectional practice prior to our concert and/or district contest.  This is an opportunity for us to provide individual or small group teaching – more targeted and more personalized than is possible in a group of 70+.  We are making ourselves as flexible as possible to accommodate the students’ schedules.
