Bobcat Band Blast

1. Back Home:  Mr. Landry, Mr. Corrigan and I were in attendance at the Ohio Music Education Association Professional Development Conference last week.  The OMEA All-State groups, collegiate ensembles, many high school/middle school and elementary groups performed.  Classes & lectures by noted university professors were also part of the conference.  We had a tremendous “boost” from the musical experience, but it’s great to be home with our Bobcats!

    

2. 2011 All-State:  Students interested in auditioning for the 2011 OMEA All-State band should start preparing now.  Requirements include:  Class A or B solo, scales and 1-2 etudes from a required list.  Students who had successful Solo & Ensemble “A or B” solos should maintain those; we will give out the etudes as soon as the list is available.  Deadline will be near the end of our school year – stay tuned!

    

3. Schedule for the week:   Pep band Tuesday, 6:15 PM  Girls’ BB at home
                                                 Jazz band Wednesday, 7:00 AM  Breakfast provided!!!
    
4. Saturday Night “Special Guests”:  Pep band this Saturday will feature our guests from BGSU- the Kappa Kappa Psi band honorary.  Members of KKY will sit in with our students for an extra special performance!   Meet in the music room by 6:00 – snacks provided!
    
5. “Break A Leg”:   Many Bobcat Band students are involved with the Drama Club production of  Twelfth Night”  plan to attend and experience a terrific performance! Shows are Thursday, Friday & Saturday, 7:00 pm; tickets are $4.00 students and $7.00 adults.
    
6. Band Store:  We are happy to provide the convenience of the Band Store, especially with no music store available in town.  However, please check with your own son or daughter – over 50% of the band still owes $$, some since marching season!  The most recent grade cards should have had a reminder in the “comments” section.  Thanks for your attention to this detail!

    

7. Long Range Calendar:  Tuesday, March 2   7:00 PM  Winter Concert
                                            Friday, March 12  OMEA  District  Competition @ Southview
   
   Both events are required for all 9-12 Band Students.  (Yellow forms are due NOW if you  anticipate a schedule conflict.  As of today, there have been no requests submitted. Yellow forms are stored by the music office, on the AV cart, where they have been all year.)
   With an event as important as Districts, both bands will be having sectional help in the coming weeks.  All efforts will be made to schedule at the students’ convenience, not at our convenience. Sectional practice allows us to tailor instruction to a single instrument, or to an individual’s needs.

    

8. Solo & Ensemble Results:  Following are the “I” Superior  and “II” Excellent awardees from our bands’ participation on Saturday, January 23.  Freshmen still have another opportunity to perform – Saturday, March 20.  Registration is due to Mr. Landry by Tuesday, February 16.
