Bobcat Band News 12/11/2009

•    THANKS: to ALL who assisted with our concerts this past week! We have appreciated the kind notes, emails and phone calls regarding the new auditorium and the students’ performances.  We are pleased with the bands’ progress thus far and anticipate a great second semester!

•    POINSETTIAS:  Many of you purchased the poinsettias from our concerts and we appreciate your business!  If you missed the opportunity, those lovely arrangements are still available from Klotz Flower Farm, who supplied us for this event.

•    UNIFORM/FORMALWEAR:  Thanks to Janet Hammersmith & crew for getting all of our young adults into the formalwear for Sunday.  The uniform maintenance fees that have been paid also cover the purchase/repair/cleaning of the formal attire.  If you haven’t yet submitted your 2009-2010 fee, we are still accepting those.  The cost is the same throughout the year - $50.00/family for the entire school year.  Checks should be made payable to: BGHS Band Boosters.

•    GRADES: As of this week, all grades should be up-to-date in Pinnacle.  A few students missed the sectional coaching for the concert – that would appear as a “0”.  Otherwise, nearly everyone is doing very well!  Please contact us before next Friday if there are any questions about the 2nd quarter grades.

•    BAND STORE:  A few students have paid debts this week – thanks!  We greatly appreciate getting these cleared by the end of the semester.  Band Treasurer Emily Smith will gladly assist students who “forget” their totals!  Cash or Checks are welcome; please make checks payable to BGHS Band Boosters.

•    OMEA DISTRICT HONORS BAND:  Mr. Landry & Mrs. Smith will be available next week, Monday-Thursday after school to record band students for application to the District 1 Honors Band.  Info has been available at school for the past several weeks. Students will be selected over break and notified after January 4.

•    PEP BAND:  Pep band for basketball season resumes this TUESDAY, Dec. 15. All current band students are welcome to participate.  Snacks & door prizes will continue!  Be here by 5:30 PM so that we may rehearse before the game.

•    DECEMBER 29 ALUMNI PEP BAND!!  We are planning an ALUMNI & current student pep band for the “mid-break”  Bobcat Game.  Watch this website for details!

•    SOLO & ENSEMBLE: We are asking all band students grades 9-12 to participate in the District 1 OMEA  (Ohio Music Education Association) Solo & Ensemble Adjudicated Event, which is Saturday,  January 23, at Perrysburg HS.   Students who have BGHS sporting events, family conflicts or other “pressing” activities are asked to complete a “Yellow Form” (our standard procedure for the past several years) and return to us ASAP.  Students  not available for the competition will still be included in ensembles to perform here at home – see below.

•    SOLO & ENSEMBLE RECITALS:  Evenings during the week of January 11, band & orchestra students will have an opportunity to perform for friends & family in the PAC lobby.  We intend these to be “fun” nights, as well as valuable performing experiences. Students will NOT need to attend all the nights – we will assemble a schedule after the holidays.

•    JAZZ BAND:  We’ll resume after the break!
