Bobcat Band Newsletter - Happy Thanksgiving!!

  1. Bobcats on TV: The BG Holiday Parade is scheduled to be on FOX 36, starting at 9:00 AM Thanksgiving Day.  We surely had one of the nicest days ever for this big event!
  2. Thanks to:  The Band Booster Executive Board parents for providing refreshments for us after the parade.  Also to “band uncle” Dan Davis, BG Transportation Director, for the extra goodies this year!
  3. Band Sectionals: Mr. Landry & Mrs. Smith have been (or will be) seeing each section of Concert and Symphonic Bands in preparation for the December 6 concert.  These practices are  not punitive- it is to give our students more attention on specific skills unique to their individual instruments. Students choose the times that are convenient for them.   We directors are willing to meet with them at their convenience.  As of 11/25/09:

Completed Sectionals:  SB Clarinets, SB Tubas, CB Flutes,  Horns: both bands, Oboes: both bands      Thank you!

    Sectionals scheduled, not yet completed:

    • Tuesday Dec. 1 2:30 SB Trombones and CB Clarinets
    • Wednesday, Dec. 3 2:30 CB Euphonium
    • Thursday, Dec. 4 2:30 SB Trumpets;  3:30 CB Percussion;  4:30 CB Saxes
    • Still need to schedule: SB Saxes, Flutes,  Perc. Euphonium, Low Reeds, CB Low Reeds, Trumpets, Tubas, Trombones

Students who miss sectionals will see “0” in Pinnacle, until makeup arrangements are made with the directors.

  4. Concert Dress Rehearsals: At this time, we are not permitted to have extra hours in the auditorium on Saturday, Dec. 5, due to custodial costs. If we lose any more rehearsal time due to unforeseen events (fog, assembles, etc.), we will need practice time,  although we would be our own band room, not on stage. The “emergency practice day” would be Saturday, Dec. 5 - if, and only if, needed.
  5. December 6 Concert Schedule:  Will be available online and hard copy next Monday, Nov. 30. Janet Hammersmith (419.352.8590) is still taking volunteers to supervise the formalwear on that day.
  6. Concert Details:   Concert will begin at 3:00pm, with small ensembles performing in the lobby        beforehand. NO tickets, no admission for this event. Seating is on a first come basis. Coat room is available, as well as accommodations for the mobility-challenged.
  7. Elementary/Middle School Band Concert December 8, 7:00PM –Free & open to the public!
  8. Jazz band:  We’ve met 3 times, before & after school, and will be debuting on December 6! There will be 1 or 2 practices the week of November 30.
  9. Pep Band: All band members are welcome and encouraged to perform in pep band.  This year, Mr. Landry is assembling the schedule for our appearances at Men’s and Women’s home.
